HOTREC views for a compromise: Proposal for a Directive on Platform Work

HOTREC acknowledges the European Parliament’s and the Council’s approaches toward a Directive on “Improving Working Conditions in Platform Work.” HOTREC takes note of the European Commission’s goal of enhancing platform work conditions while supporting digital labour platform growth.

However, we are concerned about the potential consequences of automatically reclassifying self-employed individuals as employees, as it could reduce platform workers’ flexibility and exacerbate labour shortages in the hospitality sector.

HOTREC emphasizes the following priorities: limiting the directive’s scope to digital labour platforms, establishing clear criteria for legal presumption, and allowing Member States to determine suspensive effects on administrative and judicial decisions.
