EU Green Claims Directive: finding a balanced approach for European Hospitality

On 22 March 2023, the European Commission proposed an EU Directive on Green Claims to tackle false environmental claims by providing consumers with reliable and comparable information on companies’ activities and sustainable practices.
HOTREC supports the Commission’s goal to establish an EU-wide general framework to reduce the risk of greenwashing and increase transparency. Nonetheless, we call for such a framework to be proportionate and balanced.
The Directive on Green Claims should be easy to apply for companies – especially for SMEs – and shouldn’t bring an excessive administrative burden.
