European Tourism Manifesto - Speed up social and economic recovery by fostering sustainable tourism development
According to the European Commission's Communication 'Europe's moment: Repair and Prepare for the Next Generation'1, travel and tourism is one of the most affected ecosystems by the COVID-19 pandemic and requires € 161 billion2 worth of investment to bounce back to pre-crisis levels. The new Recovery and Resilience Facility3, proposed by the Commission to help the EU rebuild after the pandemic, offers an unprecedented opportunity to support tourism and ensure that the sector helps to drive digital and green transitions, and thereby strengthens both economic and social resilience.

Diverse and adaptable forms of work are essential to Europe’s recovery
The Covid-19 crisis has a devastating impact on our sectors, who are important for job creation and growth in Europe. Part-time, fixed-term work and temporary agency work meet both the needs of employees who have other commitments either in domestic or educational contexts, and the need for labour-intensive services sectors to serve customers predominantly outside regular office hours, and peak periods of demand around holiday and sales periods. Together with full-time work, the diverse and adaptable forms of work in our sectors underpin Europe's social market economy, provide jobs to many women, young and people with disabilities, and are necessary for Europe’s recovery.

Industry survival depends on common testing protocol in Europe
NET welcomes the announcement of the Commission of a European testing protocol for travellers and a common approach to quarantines. If correctly implemented, it will restore travel confidence and allow the travel and tourism industry to lift off again.
